Individual Volunteer Opportunities

Please note that we ask our Individual Volunteers to make a regular commitment to the positions that they fill. Shifts are typically 3‐4 hours each. We do have opportunities in our kitchen, janitorial or Clothes Depot for individuals who can only volunteer on certain dates (please book in advance).

Online Volunteer Application

Computer Lab Volunteer: 1:30pm – 4:00pm (Weekdays)

While volunteering at the computer lab, you are a part of the Support Staff, which is the entry point for most people coming into The Lighthouse. The computer lab is a crucial part of what we do, as guests depend on the computers as their lifeline to contact loved ones and potential employers. The computers draw guests to the Lighthouse and provides a good introduction to other programs at the Lighthouse. Our computer lab is completely volunteer run, and therefore it’s essential we have committed people so that guests can depend upon this service!

Employment Skills Mentor: 9:00am – 12:00pm

Employment Skills Mentors play an important role on the Employment Centre team in helping our guests with their search for work. In this position, you will host hourly one‐to‐one appointments for assistance with resumes, cover letters, job searches, or interview skills.

Overnight Housing Volunteer: 8:00pm – 5:00am; or 8:00pm – 8:00am (Nightly)

This position plays an important role within our Housing team in supporting our residents. You will be involved with the facilitation of social activities, life skills programming, conducting intakes, registrations and orientations of new residents, writing daily reports, and other administrative and support duties. You will have the support of the Support Staff. On site orientation will be provided.

Drop In Volunteer: 5:00pm to 9:00pm (Friday)

While volunteering in the Drop In Centre, the entry point of The Lighthouse you will be part of a team made up of both staff and volunteers. Once guests check in at the front door, they are welcome to take part in meals and other services. The Street Level team plays a crucial role in the lives of our guests by building relationships and connecting them with services around the agency (such as employment, housing and advocacy).As a volunteer, you will be an essential part of making this process run smoothly. As such, we hope that you will be able to be flexible with the tasks that come up.

Aftercare Rental Search Volunteer: 5:30pm to 8:30pm (Wednesdays)

As an Aftercare Rental Search Volunteer, you will be working directly with guests, assisting in their search for safe and affordable housing. Working with the the Support Staff, you will be trained with techniques for assisting residents in their online searches, within guided criteria. Volunteers will be required to have proficiency using a web browser and basic search functions.

Women’s Support Group Facilitator:1:30pm to 3:30pm (Thursdays)

The purpose of the Women’s Support Group is to encourage and empower participants to share, learn, grow and implement positive tools for change in their lives. The Facilitator will have strong communication and leadership skills, experience leading a group, and knowledge of Saskatoon resources for women. You, along with another volunteer, will facilitate group discussion, set up and take down the space, record attendance, and be a source of support and encouragement for the participants.

Physical Needs Centre

Sorting Centre Volunteer: 1:00 – 4:00pm (Weekdays)

The Sorting Centre is the hub where all of the donations for The Lighthouse are processed. Volunteers will help sort clothing and hygiene items so that they can be utilized by our residents at our various locations.
