**For Immediate Release**

EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY SASKATOON LIGHTHOUSE TO TEMPORARILY RESTRICT
SERVICES DUE TO COVID OUTBREAK

A COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at The Lighthouse in Saskatoon. In accordance
with SHA consultation and guidelines, The Lighthouse WILL NOT be accepting clients into
the emergency shelters (accessed through the front entrance), or The Lighthouse
Stabilization Unit (aka LSU, accessed through the back entrance) until further notice. We
will review the situation on November 8 and decide if restrictions need to remain in place.

Current shelter clients and residents staying at The Lighthouse are able to remain at the
shelter. During this time, people cleared from the Assisted Self-Isolation Site (ASIS) hotel
sheltering system can continue to access Lighthouse shelter services as well.

If emergency sheltering/housing assistance is needed during the day, agencies can
contact the Ministry of Social Services. After 5pm, they can call the Salvation Army
Emergency After-Hours (SA-EAH) shelter service line.

The Lighthouse Clothing Donation Program is also temporarily suspended. We are NOT
accepting clothing, hygiene products, furniture etc. at this time. Monetary donations are
always accepted.

The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) is working closely with The Lighthouse for
contact tracing and virus containment. Staff have followed protocols for COVID-19 safety
since the beginning of the pandemic, under the guidance of Public Health. Staff quickly
mobilized this weekend, along with the SHA, to get as many residents and staff tested as
possible. Testing and active surveillance will continue for the next several weeks.

This coming week, Lighthouse staff will connect with current residents’ family/contact
person to provide an update about their loved one. We ask for your patience as we work
through this process.

The services disruption will be reviewed on November 8. For the most recent updates,
visit our Facebook Page.
