About Us

The Lighthouse Supported Living Inc. is a non-profit housing provider that offers emergency shelter, supportive living, and affordable housing for men, women, and families in Saskatoon.  The Lighthouse addresses the root causes of poverty through providing housing, food services, and employment in a supportive community for anyone in need.

We are committed to caring for the poor, marginalized, and the hard to house. We believe that community has the power to bring about positive change in everyone, and everyone has the potential to bring about positive change in the community.

We live out our beliefs through the following services we offer:

Emergency Shelter

The Lighthouse provides emergency shelter for single men and women in two separate dorms. These emergency shelters are for people who either have no place to call home or their living situation is so unsafe that it is better for them to be in a shelter. The causes of homelessness vary.  Some people have had a bad series of events that have set them back financially, domestic violence, addictions, or struggles with mental health. They are given a safe place to sleep, a secure place to store belongings, and supports to help them find long term housing.

The Dubé Lighthouse (Supported Living Tower)

The Lighthouse’s first tower was known for many years as the Capri Hotel (and before that the historic Empire Hotel). It features 64 rooms and features a variety of residents who need varying levels of support to allow them to function in the community. It’s a diverse community and ranges from transitioning youth to low income seniors. Some have physical and cognitive disabilities and are overcoming addictions. What they all have in common is that they find a sense of community, safety, and a place to call home at The Dubé Lighthouse.

Complex Needs Wing

Amidst our supported living rooms, The Lighthouse has nine rooms that have been set aside for residents with mental health issues in partnership with the Saskatoon Health Region. As opposed to a traditional care or group home, our nine long term mental health rooms provide a higher degree of independence for our residents, while helping to manage basic daily living activities such as preparing meals, taking care of medications, learning essential life skills, and obtaining basic needs.

Home Again

After a time at the Lighthouse, some of our residents are ready to move back into the wider Saskatoon community. The Lighthouse operates six homes in the community for residents to live in where they learn to keep the homes running, live with roommates, and integrate themselves back into part of Saskatoon.

Affordable Housing

In 2012, The Lighthouse opened an east tower, a 58 suite affordable housing facility made up of one and two bedroom suites, classroom space, common area, and a large dining room that is available for all of our residents. The below market rents make it possible for those that are struggling with rents in Saskatoon to have an affordable place to call home.

Community Outreach

The expansion of the Lighthouse doesn’t just mean more housing units, it gives us an opportunity to offer new services both residents and others in the community that need it. Our finished building offers a drop-in centre, a nurse’s station, employment centre, computer lab, classrooms, and meals open to the public.

Food Services

Residents of the emergency shelters and supported living programs all get three meals a day cooked in our onsite kitchen and served in the dining room.

Blue Mountain Adventure Park – Our Social Enterprise

Blue Mountain Adventure Park outside of North Battleford offers a tranquil environment surrounded by the beauty of Saskatchewan beyond the inner city where homeless men and women can realize their full potential and positively change their lives. Guests can partake in camping, canoeing, hiking, zip lining, high ropes courses, swimming…and that’s just in the summer! Visit the website for information about winter activities too.
