Casual – Janitor

Position Type:

This is a casual position for shifts in our janitorial department; shifts are typically 8 AM – 4:30 PM, and could be scheduled on weekdays or weekends.

Reports To

  • Building Manager

Janitorial Job Duties

  • Locks or unlocks doors, turns lights on/off
  • Performs general clean-up of all facilities
  • Sweeps, mops, polishes, refinishes resilient floor areas, dumps garbage and recycling bins, performs all cleaning aspects of halls, offices, board rooms, restrooms, dining room, and classrooms as well as washing walls, windows, and window coverings
  • Cleans light fixtures and changes bulbs/tubes as required
  • Contacts appropriate maintenance service personnel for major repairs
  • Responsible for vandalism clean-up and repair within skill level
  • Maintains and/or has working knowledge of environmental safeguards and alarm systems
  • Helps set up rooms for meetings, parties, or various other activities and cleans up after
  • Plan and prioritize work for self
  • Determine needed supplies and equipment
  • Monitor need for equipment maintenance and repair
  • Responsible for proper inventory of materials and supplies. Accountable to administrators for custodial performance
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Any combination of education, training and experience which demonstrates ability to perform the duties and responsibilities as described
  • Understanding of cleaning duties
  • Willingness to obtain additional training as needed
  • Fluent in English (verbal and written)
  • WHMIS 2015 is a requirement (or willingness to take training when hired)
  • Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check required as condition of employment

Work Condition

  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Willingness to work overtime occasionally, if needed
  • Work both indoors and outdoors
  • Janitorial shifts are 8 hours in length
  • Primarily weekday shifts; potential for weekend shifts in the future.
