The Cameco Community Kitchen, a secondary kitchen on The Lighthouse campus provides meals to the wider community for anybody who is in need of an evening meal, at no cost to them.

In 2014, renovations to the kitchen were made possible with a gift from Cameco. The area was transformed into a functional, dependable, updated kitchen where families, friends, regulars and new people have been gathering together twice a week to share a meal.

  • 104 community meals are served annually
  • 10,400 meals served to hungry people

Since the opening of the Cameco Community Kitchen, Cameco employees have volunteered twice a month to shop for ingredients, cook the meal, serve to ~100 people per night, and clean the kitchen and dining room. This incredible group of people have adapted to our covid protocols and have continued to support meals throughout the pandemic. They show up every time with their hands and their hearts ready to help. We couldn’t be more grateful for their support!

Since the pandemic began in spring of 2020, and due to social distancing rules regarding indoor gathering sizes meals have been handed out in separate packaging by the kitchen entrance.

We miss our friends and sharing warm meals together Mondays and Fridays, and can’t wait until we can hang out again.

Dakota Dunes CDC
A gift from Dakota Dunes CDC made sure that during the pandemic we had enough paper bags, and nutritious food to put in them so we could serve individual, prepackaged, covid-safe meals.

This program is also supported by many, many friends of The Lighthouse who donate to make lives better.
