Emergency Shelter in North Battleford
Currently The Lighthouse emergency shelter is under the care of the Battlefords Agency Tribal Chiefs (BATC) for a 6 month pilot from October 2021 – March 2022.
Lighthouse Community Housing
Transitional, supported and affordable housing is needed so that people don’t languish in an emergency shelter and have a place to live after. These are identified gaps in the North Battleford Housing Strategy and Action Plan. The Lighthouse is committed to this action plan and continues to develop person-centred supported housing in North Battleford.
The Lighthouse operates and supports 15 housing units in the community with 14 more units under development. Participants in Lighthouse housing either live mostly independently or have a one-on-one support worker who helps them learn life skills for daily living.

Our History in North Battleford
The Lighthouse Serving the Battlefords has been committed to addressing gaps along the housing continuum in North Battleford for several years.
In 2014, The Lighthouse Supported Living Inc. in Saskatoon was approached by community leaders in North Battleford to open a permanent emergency shelter in their city. After much discussion, The Lighthouse purchased the Reclaim Outreach Centre at 963 102nd St. in North Battleford. After renovations, the doors opened to shelter guests in late January 2015.
The Lighthouse supported housing program began shortly after, offering 3 supporting living units above the shelter. Since then, The Lighthouse has developed more supported housing units (as mentioned above) with several more under development.
On October 1, 2021 emergency shelter operations was put under the care of BATC for a 6 month trial.
